WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team won for the eighth time in the past 10 outings with an 8-1 ODAC victory over Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (9-3, 4-3 ODAC) lost only at No. 1 doubles in taking out the Marlins (4-13, 2-8).
After falling in that No. 1 doubles match, Rachel Gross and Amber Lake came back to win 8-3 at No. 2 to knot the contest at 1-1.
Thanks to default wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, the Hornets needed just two more singles victories to clinch the match.
Coach Larry Hubbard's club did it one better, sweeping the Nos. 1 through 5 matches to close out the victory.
Molly Barb and Shannon Allin had three-set wins at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, while Amy Rapp had the match-clinching win with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at No. 3.
Gross won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and Lake 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 to compete their two-win afternoon.
Shenandoah hosts Sweet Briar on Thursday in a 4:30 ODAC contest.
