Women's Tennis Dominates Hood

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team earned its second win of the 2015 spring season with a 9-0 non-league victory over Hood College Friday evening.

Shenandoah (2-0) opened with a sweep of the doubles over Hood (1-4) before winning the six singles matches in straight sets.

SU got matters started by sweeping the three doubles matches in strong fashion, dropping just seven games in the process.

Junior Molly Barb and senior Shannon Allin, playing at the top spot, were 8-0 victors.

Amber Lake and Caitlin Tilton combined for an 8-3 win at No. 2 before Amanda Banocy and Audrea Wright finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory at No. 3.

Needing just two wins in the six singles matches to clinch, the Hornets made quick work of the victory by sweeping Nos. 1 through 4 matches in straight sets.

The needed two points both came by 6-0, 6-0 victories as Tilton won her match by that score at No. 4 just prior to Amy Rapp finishing off Aubrey Fetters at No. 3 to clinch the victory.

Barb won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 and Allin 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.

Lake and Alayna McEathron won 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

Shenandoah is now off until opening ODAC play at Randolph-Macon on March 8.
