WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team opened up its 2015 spring season Saturday night with a 9-0 shutout of Shippensburg University.
The Hornets (1-0) dropped just four games in sweeping the three doubles matches before winning the six singles matches in straight sets over the DII Red Raiders (1-3).
Three singles matches, at Nos. 3, 5 and 6, were won at love. Jeannella Williams, Amber Lake and Caitlin Tilton won those matches for the hosts.
Lake and Tilton were perfect on the evening as they won their No. 3 doubles match 8-0 over Emilie Luttman and Sarah Kramer.
Senior Shannon Allin, who combined with Molly Barb to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, had the match-clinching win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Brittney Buckley at No. 2 singles.
Barb won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-3 to set Allin up to clinch.
The squad is back in action in two weeks in another indoor non-league match, this one against Hood.
