Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Host Mary Washington kept its baseball record perfect on the young season with a 10-2 non-league victory over No. 12/17 Shenandoah Friday afternoon.
The Eagles (8-0) touched 11 SU pitchers for the 10 runs on 13 hits and three walks.
Sophomore Joshua Stamp (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits; Stamp worked the first inning before turning it over to freshman Colin Morse.
No Shenandoah (2-2) pitcher worked more than one inning.
Staked to that 3-0 lead, UMW scored two more in the third before the Hornets got on the board with one run in the fifth.
Junior Billy Arens plated that first run with a single to left that brought home J.J. McDaniel from third. McDaniel led off the Hornets fifth with a double to right center.
In the seventh, Shenandoah scored its second run thanks to two Eagles errors. Ricky Pardo reached on an error by the shortstop, and after advancing to second on a wild pitch, scored on a two-base error by Mary Washington first baseman David Slupek.
Arens and McDaniel both had two hits to lead the SU offense.
Gabe Tonga (1-0) earned the win for Mary Washington. He gave up two hits and three walks in 4.0 innings of scoreless action.
The Hornets open up their home slate on Sunday with an ODAC doubleheader against Guilford. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
