WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 14/25 Shenandoah University played its first tie baseball game in 12 years Wednesday afternoon in a 2-2 non-league tie with Catholic.

Catholic (8-0-1) scored a single run in the first before Shenandoah (7-2-1) answered with one in the bottom of the eighth.

The two teams then traded runs in the 13th before the game was halted due to darkness.

The tie game is the first for the Hornets since SU tied Concordia-Moorhead 9-9 on March 5, 2003 as part of the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.

Shenandoah banged out 12 hits in Wednesday's contest but left 11 runners on base including ones in scoring position in the second, third, sixth, 12th and 13th innings.

In the 10th, Ricky Pardo was thrown at home on the front end of an attempted double steal with Michael Paul at first.

Catcher Daniel Freshley had three hits and both RBI - he had a sacrifice fly in the eighth and a single through the left side in the 13th.

Billy Arens, John Wilt and J.J. McDaniel had two hits each to back up Freshley.

Sophomore Tyler Hott pitched the first eight innings of the game, allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks.

Hott struck out five.

Phillip Morse had six strikeouts in four innings of relief work before Matt Riegler pitched the 13th.

SU hosts Hampden-Sydney on Saturday in a noon ODAC doubleheader.
