ASHLAND, Va. - Host Randolph-Macon outlasted Shenandoah in a 6-3 ODAC women's tennis victory Sunday afternoon.
In a match that featured four of six singles matches extended to three sets, the Yellow Jackets (2-0, 2-0 ODAC) were able to win four of six singles matches and two of three on the doubles side to down Shenandoah (2-1, 0-1).
R-MC took a 2-1 lead following the doubles thanks to an 8-0 win at No. 1 and an 8-3 victory at No. 2.
SU kept itself in it with an 8-5 victory from Caitlin Tilton and Amy Rapp at No. 3.
The 'Jackets clinched the win by sweeping the top three singles matche; two of these three, Nos. 1 and 3, went to a third set.
Shenandoah won two of final three singles matches with Rapp winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 4 and Amber Lake 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 6.
Lake's third set was played as a 10-game pro-set because the team result was already clinched.
Molly Barb dropped a 6-3, 2-6, 2-6 decision at No. 1 and Jeannella Williams fell 6-3, 3-6, 0-1 (4-10) at No. 3 in the other three-set matches.
SU travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 2 p.m. Monday afternoon ODAC match.
