WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 9/13 Shenandoah University nearly set an NCAA record for hits in an inning in a 21-2 non-conference baseball victory over Mount Aloysius Monday afternoon.

Shenandoah (20-4-1) scored 18 runs on 15 hits to completely break open the contest against the Mounties (14-12).

All nine SU hitters had at least one hit in the frame with six players: Billy Arens, Ricky Pardo, Michael Paul, J.J. McDaniel, Ryan Mossman and Daniel Freshley, getting two hits each.

After Mossman led off the frame by popping out to second, the next 20 hitters reached base safely with McDaniel and John Wilt hitting home runs.

Shenandoah had two doubles and two home runs among its 15 hits in the frame.

The 15 hits misses by one the record of 16 set by St. Scholastica (Minn.) versus North Central (Minn.) on May 3, 2013.

Freshman Colin Morse (5-0) showed no ill effects from the 47-minute rest on the bench, as he worked a scoreless sixth and seventh to finish off another solid effort.

Morse gave up one run on five hits and two walks in 7.0 innings of work.

Steven Varner pitched the seventh and Nolan Potts the ninth to close out the contest.

Arens led the offense with four hits with Pardo, Paul, McDaniel, Mossman, Freshley and Nolan Overby getting two each.

Seven of the nine starters drove in at least one run with Arens plating five.

Shenandoah returns to ODAC play tomorrow at Bridgewater. The Hornets and Eagles will complete their halted game from last week and then play their regularly scheduled contest.
