WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team continued its march to a home match in the upcoming ODAC Tournament with a 7-2 victory over Hollins Friday afternoon.
Shenandoah (11-3, 5-3 ODAC) opened by winning two of three doubles matches over Hollins (6-10, 4-6) and then nearly swept the singles.
Junior Amy Rapp, with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Jhovanna Salmeron at No. 4 singles, clinched the win for the Hornets.
Caitlin Tilton, with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5, and Jeannella Williams, with a win at love at No. 3, set Rapp up to close out the victory.
All three women were also double winners for the Hornets.
Rapp and Tilton started off the match with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles while Williams combined with Amber Lake to win 8-4 at No. 2.
The final two wins came at No. 6, where Lake was a 6-3, 6-3 victor, and No. 1, where Molly Barb gutted out a 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (11-9) victory.
The women are back in action tomorrow at Emory and Henry.
Shenandoah is now sixth in the league with three matches to play. Wins in those matches (E&H, Randolph and Bridgewater) can vault the team to fourth and a home match in the opening round of ODAC Tournament play.
