STAUNTON, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team earned its second win in three outings with a 7-0 non-league victory over Mary Baldwin Tuesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (5-4) opened with dominating wins in the top two doubles matches before Denise Vollmer and Kelsey Nicely gutted out a 9-7 victory at No. 3 over Jeni-Lee MacLaughlin and Jochebed Koomson.
Molly Barb and Caitlin Tilton started SU off with an 8-1 win at No. 1 while Amy Rapp and Melodie Madison were 8-2 winners at No. 2.
Barb put the Hornets within one win of closing out the Squirrels (2-12) by winning her No. 1 singles match at love.
Rapp and Tilton put the finishing touches on the victory by dropping just a combined three games to win at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, while Vollmer won at love at No. 6.
Nicely and Madison's matches at Nos. 4 and 5 were unstarted due to weather conditions.
Shenandoah is back in action on Friday with a 4 p.m. non-league home match versus Sweet Briar.
