WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team swept the singles matches Friday in earning a 7-2 non-league victory over Sweet Briar.
After Sweet Briar (6-7) took a 2-1 lead thanks to wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, Shenandoah (6-4) rallied to sweep the six singles matches.
Senior Caitlin Tilton quickly tied the match at 2-2 with a win at love at No. 3 before Denise Vollmer did the same at No. 6.
Vollmer was one of two women to win twice on the day. She had previously combined with Kelsey Nicely to win 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Two seniors ended up closing out the match. Molly Barb, at No. 1, won 6-4, 6-2 to put SU to within one win of clinching.
Amy Rapp, at No. 2, also won 6-4, 6-2 to earn the crucial fifth point.
Nicely took out Samantha Yew 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 and Melodie Madison was a 6-4, 6-3 victor at No. 5 to provide the final margin of victory.
Shenandoah returns to ODAC play on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Hollins.
