WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's tennis team opened up its 2017 spring season with a 9-0 non-league victory over Mary Baldwin University Saturday evening.
The Hornets (1-0) won all nine matches in straight sets, and held the Fighting Squirrels (0-1) without a set victory in five of the nine matches.
Freshman Alyssa White had the match-clinching win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Esperanza Cadena at No. 3 singles.
White was put in position to close out the victory thanks to a sweep in the three doubles matches plus a 6-0, 6-0 win for Morgan Fuqua over Alayah Austin at No. 1 singles.
Melodie Madison, Audrea Wright and Emma Crue all won their singles matches at love with Madison winning at No. 4, Wright at No. 5 and Crue at No. 6.
Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday, February 25 in a 7:30 p.m. non-league match versus DII Shippensburg.
