WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Shippensburg University earned its first women's tennis victory of the season Saturday night with a 7-2 non-conference victory over Shenandoah University.
The Raiders (1-4) swept the doubles point before securing the victory with wins in the bottom four singles matches.
Trailing 3-0, Shenandoah (1-1) attempted its comeback by getting wins from Morgan Fuqua and Alyssa White at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, but could not secure the needed victories.
Fuqua was a 6-0, 6-1 victor over Catherine Miller at No. 1 with White winning 7-5, 7-5 over Gabbie Binder at No. 2.
Melodie Madison won her opening set versus Emilie Luttman, 6-3, before Luttman rallied to win 6-2, 6-1 in the second and third sets at No. 3.
Shenandoah is now off until taking on Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia Beach on March 12 in its ODAC opener.
