WINCHESTER, Va. – Senior Audrea Wright won twice for Shenandoah University Wednesday afternoon, but it was not enough as Sweet Briar took a 6-3 ODAC women's tennis victory over the host Hornets at the Lowry Tennis Complex.
Wright combined with Denise Vollmer to win 8-3 at No. 3 doubles for SU (3-11, 1-9 ODAC) but Sweet Briar (7-11, 3-8) swept the middle four singles matches to earn the win.
Freshman Morgan Fuqua had brought the Hornets back to level, 2-2, by winning 6-4, 6-2 over Emily Wandling at No. 1 singles.
The two squads split the next two matches, with Wright winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6, to make the score 3-3 with Nos. 2, 4 and 5 singles matches still on the court.
SBC won them all in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 providing the clinching point.
Wright beat Lacey Tucker at No. 6 for her singles win.
Shenandoah completes its season on Saturday with a 3 p.m. ODAC match versus Virginia Wesleyan.
