Shentel Stadium Turf to be Replaced

WINCHESTER, Va. - Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Doug Zipp announced Tuesday that the process of replacing the artificial turf on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium begins today.

The turf, which was originally installed in 2008, is slated to be replaced with FieldTurf XTHD-57 and features permanent, inlaid lines for field hockey, football, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, and men's and women's soccer.

The lines for football (white), men's lacrosse (navy blue) and men's and women's soccer (red) remain the same as what the university had installed on the original turf in 2008.

Field hockey will now have mustard lines and women's lacrosse lagoon blue. Those two sports previously had navy and red lines, respectively.

The "SU" secondary logo, unveiled three years ago, will be sewn in at midfield.

Two Sprint logos, for the field's naming rights sponsor, remain in their original spots just outside the Kathryn M. Perry-Werner End Zone Building locker rooms.

The project is expected to take up to six weeks to complete with the new turf installation scheduled to begin in the middle of June. The first two weeks of June are set for turf removal and any needed sub-base repairs.

The Office of Marketing and Communications will prepare a time-lapse video of the project.
