WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University enters its first-ever ECAC Women's Soccer Championship as the No. 3 seed in the McDaniel pod.
Â
Led by overall No. 1 seed McDaniel, the four-team pod features second-seeded Pfeiffer and No. 4 Penn State – Behrend in addition to the Hornets (11-8).
Â
The Green Terror takes on PSU-B in the opening game at 11:30 Saturday morning with Shenandoah set to face the Falcons at 2.
Â
Shenandoah has never met Pfeiffer in women's soccer; the Falcons officially joined NCAA Division III in the fall of 2017 after longtime membership in Division II.
Â
The Falcons won the USA South East Division title with a 7-1 league mark and have a 12-4 overall record. As an NCAA reclassifying member, they are still ineligible to compete in the USA South and NCAA tournaments.
Â
SU and Pfeiffer have four common opponents, two each from the ODAC and USA South. Shenandoah is 3-1 in those four games and outscored Guilford, Roanoke, Meredith and N.C. Wesleyan by a combined total of 14-4.
Â
The Falcons were 2-2, winning 3-1 versus Guilford and 4-0 over Meredith. The Falcons lost 2-1 to both Roanoke and N.C. Wesleyan.
Â
Shenandoah's lone loss in that group was a 1-0 overtime defeat at Roanoke.
Â
Maiya Pencile and
Emily Yergin, both named All-ODAC earlier this week, are the Hornets two leading scorers. Pencile has 31 points on 11 goals and nine assists while Yergin, the all-time leading scorer in program history, had 13 goals and four assists for 30 points.
Â
Sophomore
Emilie Smith has a 1.50 GAA and 38 saves in 840 minutes played.
Â
Sophomore Mackenzie Pruitt paces Pfeiffer with nine goals and six assists for 24 points. Fellow forward Cayci Eaton, a junior, has 19 points on eight goals and three assists.
Â
Senior Kaley Hyatt has played the majority of time in goal, logging a 0.71 GAA and 48 saves in 1140 minutes.
