Softball Falls in Season Opener

SU Drops 11-2 and 10-0 Decisions to Misericordia

WINCHESTER, Va - The Shenandoah University softball team opened up its 2022 season Sunday at its new facility, Rotary Field, with a non-league doubleheader versus Misericordia.

The Hornets (0-2) fell in both games to the Cougars (2-0). The Cougars defeated the Hornets 11-2 in a five-inning game one before taking game two, 10-0, in six innings.

GAME ONE RECAP

The first out on the new field would be a strikeout thrown by Hornets starting pitcher Megan Scalley. She struck two in that opening frame. 

The Cougars scored all their runs in the first three frames, scoring four in the first and seven in the third. 

Shenandoah would have a two-run fourth inning thanks to RBIs from Savannah Thorne and BayLee Jenkins

Bohn would lead the Cougars with four RBIs in the game. Her teammates Holder and Redling would go on to have multiple RBIs as well. 

GAME TWO RECAP

Misericordia would win game two 10-0 behind a strong pitching performance by starter Miranda Bohn. She would pitch fives coreless innings. 

Hornets starting pitcher Hannah Maltos would pitch four and two-thirds innings, striking out three batters and allowing eight hits.

Savannah Thorne and Alexis Hurley finished up by throwing a combined one and one-third innings with three strikeouts and three hits allowed.  

Jenkins led SU with two of the three the squad had in the nightcap.
