GREENSBORO, N.C. – No. 18 Shenandoah University banged out 18 hits Sunday in a 16-9 ODAC baseball victory over Guilford College.
Shenandoah (11-4, 1-1 ODAC) pulled away from the Quakers (3-7, 0-1) with a combined nine runs in its last four at-bats.
IN BRIEF
The Hornets looked to be in total control with a 7-2 lead midway through the fifth only to see Guilford tie it at 7-7 with five runs on just two hits, two walks and an SU error in the bottom of the frame.
The Hornets answered that rally with three runs in the sixth and one each in the seventh and eighth before turning the game into a rout thanks to a four-spot in the ninth.
Henry Delavergne, who finished 5-for-6 with six RBI on a double and two home runs, had the game-winning RBI with a two-run dinger in the sixth. He plated
Frankie Ritter, who had driven in the first run of the inning on a triple.
Ritter was 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored while
Pearce Bucher had four hits and three RBI in six at-bats.
Bucher had a solo home run in the eighth.
Kooper Anderson also had two hits.
Jacob Bell earned the win with three innings of relief work. Bell (1-0) allowed a run on three hits and one walk while striking out six.
