SALISBURY, Md. – York College of Pennsylvania earned its sixth baseball win of the season Friday afternoon with a 6-3 non-league victory over No. 16 Shenandoah University.
The Spartans (6-5) scored three wins in the first to take a lead it would not relinquish over Shenandoah (13-5).
IN BRIEF
The Hornets scored one run in the top of the first as
Frankie Ritter drew a leadoff walk and then scored on
Kooper Anderson's double to right center.
Unfortunately for SU, Anderson was stranded on base as YCP prevented further damage by inducing a flyout, a groundout and a popout to end the frame.
The Spartans answered that run with three runs on two hits and an SU error in the bottom of the frame.
Shenandoah scored a single run in the fourth with York answering back in the fifth before the two teams closed out the scoring with SU scoring once in the top of the seventh and YCP twice in the bottom.
Ritter and
Ryan Clawson both had two hits for the Hornets with Anderson, Clawson, and
Henry Delavergne driving in runs.
Reilly Owen (1-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits and three walks against four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. He also hit three batters.
York had nine hits on the day and starting pitcher Zach Reed (1-1) earned the win with 8.0 innings of work.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah continues weekend play with a 3 p.m. game Saturday versus Alfred (N.Y.) State.
