WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team completed its week by dropping a pair of close games in a non-league doubleheader versus Gettysburg.
Gettysburg (9-3) was a 2-1 winner in the opener before completing the sweep with a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE RECAP
Senior
Megan Scalley held the Bullets to just six hits, but GC scored single runs in the second and fourth before holding off the Hornets in the game one victory.
Shenandoah cut its deficit in half with a run in the fifth and had the tying run on second in the seventh but starting pitcher Paige Forry came back with a runner on first and one out to shut the door by sandwiching a pair of strikeouts around a walk.
Forry (4-1) earns the win with 4 2/3 innings of work. She allowed an unearned run on two hits and three walks while striking out four.
Tiffany Bower had two of the Hornets five hits and
Taylor Glover drove in the squad's run with a single up the middle in the fifth.
Scalley (2-4) took the loss after allowing the two runs on six hits and five walks in 6 2/3 innings. She struck out five.
GAME TWO RECAP
Gettysburg struck first with a run in the first before the Hornets answered with two in the second and one more in the third to take a 3-1 advantage.
The Bullets rallied with one in the fourth and two in the fifth to complete the sweep.
Shenandoah got the tying run on base in the seventh with one out before GC got out it with a fielder's choice and a groundout to first.
Both of the Hornets runs in the second scored via bases loaded walk.
Lily Richichi drew the first base on balls, and after a fielder's choice,
Danielle McNeill drew another base on balls to put the hosts up, 2-1.
In the third,
Savannah Thorne drove in
Tiffany Bower with a single to right. Bower had reached on a one-out single to right and moved into scoring position on a groundout.
Hannah Maltos (0-5) went the distance in the circle, allowing four runs on eight hits and seven walks. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate.

Softball is off until opening ODAC play at Guilford Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
