Eagles Fly Past Women's Lacrosse

Hornets Fall, 13-12, in See-saw Affair

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team fell 13-12 in a tightly contested non-conference game against University of Mary Washington Wednesday evening.

The Eagles (6-4) rallied back with four fourth quarter goals to help seal their victory over the Hornets (6-3).

IN BRIEF

The Hornets gained their first lead of the contest with three straight first quarter goals including Gabriella Raspanti tallying the go-ahead goal.

The teams were knotted at 4-4 after the first stanza.

Reilly Cisar scored her second of two goals giving SU a two-goal lead as halftime approached. Cisar finished the game with three total points including an assist.

Mary Washington rattled off three straight goals out of halftime to take a 9-8 lead.

The Hornets and Eagles traded goals in the third. At the 2:11 mark, Emma Stiffler buried a free-position goal, putting SU on top, 10-9, as the final stanza dawned.

UMW fought back in the final frame outscoring SU 4-2 in the quarter including the game-winner from Kayla Sarazin with just over four minutes to play.

The Hornets had the chance to tie after calling a timeout with possession at the 0:39 mark but were stopped on a late game save.

The Mary Washington defense swarmed the ball carrier and forced a turnover to end the contest.

Emily Onorato, Stiffler, and Cisar all had assists for the Hornets. The hosts had six different goal scorers in the game.

Stiffler led all scorers with six points off four goals and two assists.
