LYNCHBURG, Va. – Shenandoah University recorded its second consecutive ODAC softball split Sunday after taking one of two at the University of Lynchburg.
Shenandoah (9-17, 4-8 ODAC) was a 3-2 winner in the opener before Lynchburg (18-16, 8-4) returned the favor with a 10-1 victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE RECAP
A
Hannah Maltos three-run home run in the fourth provided all of the offense Shenandoah would need in the 3-2 victory over its fellow set of ODAC Hornets.
All three runs were unearned as Lynchburg muffed a throw on a
BayLee Jenkins fielder's choice two batters before Maltos stepped to the plate.
The home run is the second of the season for Maltos.
Senior
Megan Scalley (4-7) then registered three of her five strikeouts over the final three innings to close out the contest. She allowed two runs on seven hits and four walks, but only allowed one runner into scoring position after SU took the lead.
Maltos and
Taylor Smith both had two hits in the win.
GAME TWO RECAP
Lynchburg jumped on SU for five runs in the first, three more in the second, and then one each in the third and fourth to end the game after five innings with the 10-1 win.
Shenandoah scored its lone run on one hit and one Lynchburg error in the fourth. Smith drove in Maltos with a two-out double to center. Maltos had reached on a throwing error by Lynchburg pitcher Angela Sperandeo.
Danielle McNeill had three of the visitors four hits with Smith delivering the fourth.
Kayla Stephenson (1-2) took the loss. She allowed four runs on two hits and one walk in the first before giving way to Maltos. Maltos struck out six in four innings of work.

Shenandoah continues this road trip with a Wednesday ODAC doubleheader at Eastern Mennonite. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
