BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's tennis team ran its winning streak to five matches Thursday afternoon with a 5-4 ODAC victory at Bridgewater.
Shenandoah (8-3, 6-1 ODAC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles and then blitzed the Eagles (8-7, 3-6) in the top three singles matches to earn its first victory over BC since Mar. 16, 2016.
IN BRIEF
Leading 2-1 thanks to an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles and an 8-6 win at No. 2, the Hornets needed three singles wins to clinch the team result.
Coach
Jason Cole's squad took care of that at the top of the lineup, with
Natalia García Molina and
Jahveesha Combs both winning at love at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, and
Ariella Stepleman nearly pulling off the same trick.
Stepleman, playing No. 3, won 6-0, 6-2 over Rachel Crawford to give SU the clinching triumph.
Bridgewater made the final result as tight as possible by winning Nos. 4 through 6 in straight sets.
García Molina and Combs combined for the win at No. 1 doubles with Stepleman teaming with
Lily Kimble at No. 2.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah hosts Randolph on Saturday in a 1 p.m. ODAC match. This is also a doubleheader with the SU men.
