WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 25 Shenandoah University baseball continued its winning ways Saturday by sweeping an ODAC doubleheader over visiting Ferrum.
Shenandoah (23-8-1, 9-4-1 ODAC) was an 8-2 winner over the Panthers (13-20, 2-13) in the opener before completing the sweep with a 3-0 victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Hornets took a lead they would not relinquish thanks to a
Haden Madagan solo home run in the third before scoring three runs in the fourth and two each in the seventh and eighth on their way to an 8-2 victory.
Second baseman
Kyle Lisa hit his league-leading 10
th home run as part of the two-run seventh.
The offense was more than enough for junior
Jacob Faivre. Faivre (6-1) scattered seven hits and the two runs while walking two and striking out one in his 84-pitch, five-inning performance.
Jacob Bell and
Tad Dean finished up with both throwing two innings and striking out one. Bell gave up two hits and Dean one.
All nine SU starters had at least one hit with designated hitter
Gavin Horning leading the way with a 4-for-4 performance that included two runs scored. Madagan had three hits with
Kooper Anderson,
Frankie Ritter, and
Pearce Bucher getting two each.
Anderson and Madagan both drove in two runs.
GAME TWO RECAP
Reilly Owen and
Carson Kulina combined on a six-hitter as the Hornets completed the sweep with a 3-0 win.
Owen (2-3) needed just 94 pitches in his eight innings of work. He gave up five hits and walked two, but struck out six and benefited from three inning-ending double plays in the first, fourth, and seventh.
Owen also picked off a runner in the sixth. He faced the minimum in the first, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh.
Kulina worked around a single and a walk in the ninth to post his first save.
Two SU runs in the first, along with one more in the eighth, provided all of the game's offense.
Kyle Lisa and
Pearce Bucher had an RBI double and single, respectively, in the first while Bucher plated the final run of the game on suicide squeeze sacrifice in the eighth.
Bucher had two of the Hornets six hits in the game.
Game time was 1:59.
