WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Roanoke College had a combined 28 hits Saturday in sweeping an ODAC baseball doubleheader over No. 14 Shenandoah University.
Roanoke (15-9, 6-4 ODAC) was a 12-2 winner in game one before completing the sweep over Shenandoah (17-8-1, 4-4-1 ODAC) with an 11-5 win in the nightcap.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Maroons took a lead they would not relinquish with two runs on a pair of solo home runs in the fourth inning and had 20 hits in the 12-2 victory.
Holding a 4-2 lead heading into the ninth, Roanoke broke the game open with eight runs on nine hits in its final turn at plate.
Shenandoah used four pitchers in the frame as the Maroons sent 14 men to the plate. All nine hitters in the lineup reached base safely with one man, catcher PK Cocolis, getting a pair of doubles.
The Hornets scored their two runs in the sixth with
Kyle Lisa and
Pearce Bucher registering RBIs on a groundout and a single to right center, respectively.
Jacob Faivre (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up three runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out three.
Will Turner (3-1) went the distance for Roanoke. He scattered seven hits, did not walk a batter, and both runs allowed were unearned.
GAME TWO RECAP
The Hornets scored two runs in the first before Roanoke exploded for a combined 10 runs in the third through fifth innings of the 11-5 victory.
SU had 15 hits in the loss with
Kyle Lisa leading the way on a 4-for-5, 2 RBI performance that included his team-leading eighth home run in the fifth.
Gavin Horning had three hits and both
Pearce Bucher and
Ryan Clawson two each with Clawson driving in a pair.
Reilly Owen (1-3) pitched the first 3 2/3 and gave up six runs on three hits and three walks against two strikeouts.
