Softball Drops Pair of One Run Games

Hornets Fall 1-0 in Both Ends of Doubleheader

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Shenandoah University softball team concluded its regular season road slate Thursday afternoon by dropping a pair of non-conference games at Lebanon Valley.
 
Lebanon Valley (18-8) edged Shenandoah (11-20) by a 1-0 score in both ends of the double-dip.
 
GAME ONE RECAP
LVC scored the lone run of the game (unearned) in the first inning on a bases loaded groundout and made that stand up in the 1-0 victory.
 
Shenandoah, which was held to four hits, had runners in scoring position in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
 
Tiffany Bower had two of the squad's four hits with Taylor Smith and pitcher Megan Scalley getting the two others.
 
Scalley (5-9) struck out four and allowed the unearned run on seven hits. She also hit two batters.
 
GAME TWO RECAP
The Flying Dutchwomen completed the sweep with a second straight 1-0 victory.
 
LVC scored its lone run on two hits and a sacrifice in the third inning off of SU starter Hannah Maltos.
 
Shenandoah had runners in scoring position with less than two outs in the first and sixth and had runners on second and third with two outs in the fifth. SU left eight women on base in the contest.
 
Smith, Arlene Miller, BayLee Jenkins, Taylor Glover, and Lily Richichi had the Hornets hits.
 
Maltos (1-9) went the distance and took the hard-luck loss after allowing the one run on four hits. She struck out two.
 
UP NEXT
Shenandoah returns to ODAC play Saturday for a home 1 p.m. doubleheader versus No. 10 Randolph-Macon.
