WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team completed its ODAC slate Saturday afternoon by splitting a pair with No. 10 Randolph-Macon.
Shenandoah (12-22, 7-11 ODAC) was a 1-0 winner in game two after the Yellow Jackets (30-7, 13-5) were 2-0 winners in the opener.
GAME ONE RECAP
R-MC scored single runs in the first and third while holding SU to two hits in the 2-0 victory.
Both of the Hornets hits came in the fourth.
BayLee Jenkins had a single up the middle and
Tiffany Bower singled to short.
Megan Scalley (5-10) took the loss after allowing the two runs on seven hits and two walks. She also struck out three.
Macon pitcher Gracie Ellis (17-3) had 14 strikeouts.
GAME TWO RECAP
With the 1-0 win, Shenandoah earned its first victory over a ranked opponent since downing No. 1 (and eventual national champion) Virginia Wesleyan, 5-2, exactly one year ago today.
The Hornets got the lone run of the game in the second inning as
Danielle McNeill, who had two of the squad's four hits in the contest, plated
Aleisha Whipple with a two-out single up the middle.
Whipple had advanced to second on a
Lily Richichi base on balls to put herself into scoring position.
Pitcher
Hannah Maltos, who had led off the SU second with a single up the middle before being retired on Whipple's fielder's choice, now had all of the offense she would need.
The first-year retired the 'Jackets in order in the first, second, fourth, and sixth, and she retired eight of the final nine batters she faced.
Maltos (2-9) scattered four hits, walked none and struck out three.
Arlene Miller had the Hornets other hit.
