WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team completed its regular season home slate Wednesday afternoon with a 13-12 non-league loss to No. 18 Catholic University of America.

Shenandoah (10-6) jumped out to a 3-0 lead only to see CUA storm back with a four-goal run that bridged the end of the first quarter.

The Cardinals scored a pair of goals in the final 34 seconds of the first quarter and then the initial two tallies of the second to take a 4-3 lead.

Amy Bell goal at 12:15 to knot the game at 4-4, but this would be the Hornets high-water mark.

Catholic scored five of the game's next six goals to push its advantage out to 9-5 with 7:12 remaining in the third.Â
Madison Re ended that string with an unassisted goal at 3:08 for the hosts.

Re's goal, her lone tally of the afternoon, kickstarted a 5-2 run that brought the Hornets to within one, 11-10, with 7:51 remaining.

The two teams were not separated by more than two goals the remainder of the contest.

Reilly Cisar, who had three goals on the afternoon, gave SU the chance to tie by scoring unassisted 26 seconds before the final buzzer.

Unfortunately for the home faithful, Shenandoah was unable to win the ensuing draw and Catholic ran out the clock to secure the victory.

CUA outshot SU, 30-27, and had a 16-14 advantage on groundballs.

Shenandoah won 18 of the game's 29 draws.

Gabriella Raspanti both had three goals for the hosts with
Emma Stiffler adding two goals and one assist for three points.
