Roanoke Rallies Past Women's Lacrosse

Hornets Fall, 14-8

SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team fell to Roanoke College 14-8 in a ODAC matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The Maroons (8-3, 3-1 ODAC) went on a six-goal run between the second and fourth quarters to defeat the Hornets (7-4, 2-1).

IN BRIEF

RC struck first with Riley Chase scoring an unassisted goal at the 10:10 mark.

Sophomore midfielder Ainsley Buckner answered quickly, evening the score to 1-1 two minutes later.

Caitlyn Lepkowski found Reilly Cisar on the next two consecutive goals to give SU a 3-1 lead.

Cisar found the back of the net with 26 seconds left in the quarter for Shenandoah to have a 4-2 advantage going into the second.

Two Vendemia goals in the middle of the second put the visitors up 6-3 before RC posted a 6-0 run.

The Maroon defense held the Hornets scoreless in the third quarter and until the middle of the final stanza.

Roanoke's ride only allowed two successful clears in the third quarter, contributing to the lop-sided output on the offensive end.

Emily Onorato broke the scoreless streak at the 9:53 mark with an unassisted goal in the final stanza.

Senior Natalie Nichols scored the final goal for SU with 6:46 remaining in the contest to bring the Hornets within three goals of the home team, 11-8.

Roanoke's reserves recorded 10 of the victors' 14 goals.

Ashley McFarlane recorded 13 saves in the full time today and Maddie Re caused three turnovers.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah will be back in ODAC action on Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. versus Randolph-Macon.
