Field Hockey Announces 2022 Schedule

Nine Games To Be Played At Aikens Stadium

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey program announced its 2022 schedule Friday morning. 
 
Two three-game home stretches and road games at Lynchburg and Washington & Lee, along with christening a new stadium, highlight this year's field hockey calendar. 
 
The Hornets host Gettysburg in the first-ever competition at the newly built Aikens Stadium to open the season on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. Aikens Stadium is located on Shenandoah's main campus and is the primary competition field for field hockey and women's lacrosse. The new SU marching band and other SU athletic teams will use the site as a practice facility. 
 
Shenandoah heads north for the next three games with a game on Sept. 4 at Washington & Jefferson in Pennsylvania. The following week the Hornets travel to Ohio for a Sept. 10 game against Kenyon College and 24 hours later hit the field again, this time in a game at the College of Wooster.
 
The first of two three-game homestands has Mary Washington, Wilson College, and Stevenson University coming to campus. The three games are all set for 7 p.m. and take place on Oct. 14, 19, and 21 respectively.
 
SU closes out non-conference play with two road games at Washington College (Md.) and Christopher Newport University. Sandwiched between those road games is a home competition on Sept. 27 versus St. Mary's (Md.).
 
A trip to the beach on Oct. 1 opens ODAC competition for SU as they face Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m. The Hornets return home for a mid-week 7 p.m. game versus Eastern Mennonite. 
 
The previously mentioned road game at Lynchburg takes place on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Hornets split with each other last year with SU taking the regular season finale 4-1 and Lynchburg taking the 2021 ODAC semifinals game 3-1.
 
From October 15-22, the Hornets get three straight ODAC games at home. On Oct. 15 Ferrum takes the journey up I-81 to Winchester and four days later Bridgewater takes finds itself on the Aikens Stadium turf.
 
Oct. 22 will serve as senior day for field hockey as they close out home play with a 5 p.m. game versus Roanoke. 
 
SU squares off against the reigning ODAC champions, Washington & Lee, on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The last time Shenandoah beat the Generals was in the 2019 ODAC tournament by a score of 2-1. 
 
Shenandoah caps off the regular season with a road game at Randolph-Macon College on Oct.r 29.
