OAKTON, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's tennis team opened up its fall 2022 season Thursday afternoon with an 8-1 non-league victory at Marymount University.
The Hornets (1-0) swept the doubles and then earned wins in two of the top three singles flights to secure the victory over Marymount (1-1).
IN BRIEF
Jahveesha Combs and
Lily Kimble combined for the initial point, winning 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, before both women emerged victorious in singles.
Combs, playing No. 1, put SU one victory from clinching by winning at love. Kimble then brought the victory home with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Allison Cherwien,
Erin Talko, and
Madison Cooley were also double winners for the Hornets.
Cherwein combined with
Jada Lewis to win 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, with Talko and Cooley winning by the same score at No. 3.
Cherwein then won, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles with Cooley gutting out a 6-0, 3-6, 6-0 win at No. 5. Talko completed the afternoon by winning, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6.
