WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University volleyball team opened up its home slate Friday evening with a 3-0 non-league victory over Lancaster Bible.
Shenandoah (2-4) won at 22, 20, and 20 over the Chargers and in front of a great crowd at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.
IN BRIEF
The Hornets led wire-to-wire in the opening set with the two teams trading the lead three times in the second set and once in the third. There were also three ties in both the second and third sets.
Leading 18-10 in the third, Shenandoah saw LBC reel off seven straight points to cut the deficit to just one, 18-17.
Following an SU timeout, the Hornets got the serve back on a bad set which started a three-point run to push the hosts lead out to 21-17. Lancaster Bible would get no closer than two points the rest of the way.
The Chargers, who had 18 attack errors, five bad sets, and nine reception errors, gave Shenandoah its final three points on a pair of attack errors and a bad set.
Jillian Warter led the victors with 12 kills with
Brooke Gast adding nine. Warter, with 13 digs, led the defense in that category.
Brooke Wagner had 14 assists and Becka Nguyen 10 to fuel the offense. Shenandoah hit .221 (36-13—104) for the match to .165 for Lancaster Bible (36-18—109).

The Hornets are right back in action Saturday in a tri-match at Bridgewater. SU takes on Greensboro and Southern Virginia in its two matches.
