WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting University of Mary Washington used a six-goal third period to pull away from host Shenandoah Saturday in a 14-9 non-league men's lacrosse victory for the Eagles.

Mary Washington (2-1) broke a 6-6 halftime tie by scoring six of the seven third period goals and pulled away from Shenandoah (0-1).

Tyler Held feed, gave the Hornets their last lead at 6-5 on a goal 4:59 before halftime.

UMW tied it up at the 3:06 mark of the second, and then scored six straight to open the third and take a lead it would not relinquish.

Held, with a man-up goal at 3:36, finally snapped the Eagles scoring string but SU would get no closer.

The two teams alternated goals in the fourth with Held registering both of the Hornets tallies unassisted.

Held led the hosts with four goals with Myers adding two and

Stephen Graham, and
Jake Green one each.

Shenandoah outshot the Eagles, 33-32, and had a 27-21 advantage on groundballs and won 17 of 27 faceoffs.
