Baseball Sweeps Lebanon Valley

Hornets Take Both Ends of Doubleheader with 6-5 Wins

WINCHESTER, Va. – Déjà vu all over again.

The No. 21/24 Shenandoah University baseball team recorded a pair of 6-5 walkoff victories over Lebanon Valley Friday afternoon.

Shenandoah (6-0) rallied from a 4-2 deficit with three runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to win game one, and then erased a 5-3 seventh-inning deficit with three runs in its last at-bat to complete the sweep over the Dutchmen (0-2).

GAME ONE RECAP
Kyle Lisa delivered the game-winning hit in the seventh by beating out a two-out groundball to deep short.

Lisa's RBI single, his second hit of the day, brought home Gavin Horning from third. Horning put himself in scoring position with a one-out double to right center and after Colby Martin was intentionally walked, moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch.

SU was down to its last out after a strikeout, but Lisa laced the 0-1 offering into the hole for the game-winner.

Lisa, who had come on for starter Jacob Faivre to start the seventh on the mound, got the win. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks.

Faivre gave up four runs on six hits while striking out six in his six innings of work.

Lisa, Horning, and Pearce Bucher all had two hits with Kooper Anderson driving in a pair of runs on a single up the middle in the sixth.

GAME TWO RECAP
Trailing 5-3 after LVC scored one run in the fifth and another in the sixth, the Hornets scored three runs on three hits in the last of the seventh to finish off the sweep.

Anderson led off the SU seventh with a walk before scoring on Frankie Ritter's triple to left.  Horning then brought the game back to level with a single to left to bring home Ritter.

A Colby Martin sacrifice moved Horning into scoring position, and after Pearce Bucher was intentionally walked, pinch hitter Tyler Blittersdorf doubled to left to bring home Horning with the game-winning run.

Parker Farrington (1-0) pitched a clean seventh to earn the win in relief.

Horning had three of the squad's seven hits in the game.
