CLEARWATER, Fla. – Shenandoah University opened up its women's lacrosse spring break trip Monday morning with a 20-6 non-league victory over Susquehanna University.
The Hornets (4-2) led 10-3 at the half versus the River Hawks (4-3) before pulling away with another 10 goals in the second half.
IN BRIEF
With score tied at 1-1 four minutes into the contest, Shenandoah scored six of the game's next seven goals to lead 7-2 with 3:43 remaining in the second quarter. Susquehanna scored an unassisted goal at 2:19 before SU reeled off five straight to increase its advantage to nine, 12-3, by the 10:41 mark of the third.
Elizabeth Szell, Alexandria Powell, and
Haley Sullivan all scored their first career goals in the victory.
Goalkeeper
Ashley MacFarlane surpassed 300 career saves with her first stop of the contest. She finished the day with six saves.
Ainsley Buckner led the way with six points on three goals and three assists with
Emily Lerch and
Emma Stiffler both chipping in four points. Lerch had four goals and an assist with Stiffler dishing out three assists in addition to scoring twice.
SU outshot the 'Hawks, 31-13, had a 15-11 edge on groundballs and won 22 of the game's 30 draws.
