Softball Splits with Eagles

Hornets Win Game Two, 10-6, After Falling 2-0 in Opener

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team split its non-league doubleheader at Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon.
 
After falling, 2-0, to the Eagles (10-4) in the opener, Shenandoah (3-7) rallied for a 10-6 victory in the nightcap.
 
GAME ONE RECAP
The Hornets had five hits, including two from Tiffany Bower and one each from Danielle McNeill, Paige Eagleton, and Kara Watkins, but UMW pitcher struck out 13 in the complete game shutout.
 
Burch (6-1) struck out at least one batter in every inning and five of the first seven she faced.
 
The Eagles scored their two runs on four hits in the second.
 
Kayla Stephenson (2-5) struck out seven and allowed the two runs on eight hits and one walk.
 
GAME TWO RECAP
Shenandoah scored two runs in the first and five more in the third on its way to the 10-6, game two victory.
 
Coach Courtney Allen's club had nine hits in the win with Eagleton, Taylor Smith and Brenna Snyder all getting two each.
 
Snyder was 2 for 3 and drove in four runs on a three-run home run in the third and a solo shot in the fifth.
 
Savannah Thorne (1-0) went the first four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks before turning it over to Taylor Smith for the final nine outs. Smith notched her first save by striking out three and allowing three runs on five hits.
 
Bower, Smith, and Lily Richichi all had doubles in the victory with Bower driving in one run and Eagleton two.

Shenandoah continues this road trip with a 2 p.m. non-league doubleheader at Southern Virginia Thursday afternoon.
