WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 6/24 Shenandoah University registered its first ODAC baseball doubleheader sweep of the season Saturday by taking 9-6 and 8-3 victories over Guilford College.
Shenandoah (16-2, 3-1 ODAC) had a combined 22 hits in running its winning streak over the Quakers (9-9-1, 1-4-1) to 22 games in a series that dates back to Feb. 27, 1990.
GAME ONE RECAP
After scoring one run in the first, the Hornets used a five-spot to break open game one and coasted to the 9-6 victory. SU led 9-2 heading into the ninth before the Quakers scored four unearned runs as Rylan Smith hit a two-out grand slam home run.
Tristan Everett came on to get the final out and eafn his second save of the spring.
Shenandoah had 10 hits in the contest with
Kyle Lisa finishing 3 for 4 and both
Frankie Ritter and
Haden Madagan getting two hits each.
Gavin Horning drove in three runs on a two-run double to right center in the second and a groundout to the catcher in the sixth.
Jacob Faivre (3-0) went seven innings and allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out four. He also hit four batters.
GAME TWO RECAP
The second inning proved pivotal in game two as well as Shenandoah added on to the one run it scored in the first with four more in the second on its way to the 8-3 victory.
Coach
Kevin Anderson's club had five hits in that second inning with Madagan, Lisa,
Dillon Partin, and
Kooper Anderson each recording doubles and the latter four all driving in one run.
Anderson, Madagan, and Partin all finished 2 for 4.
Ryan Clawson was 2 for 3.
Reilly Owen (2-1) went the first six innings and gave up one run on five hits and three walks against six strikeouts.
Jackson Sherman got the next four outs, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks, before
Matt House finished up. House faced seven, struck out three and allowed one hit.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah makes the short trip down I-81 Wednesday for a 3 p.m. ODAC contest at Bridgewater.
