BRIDGEWATER, Va. – No. 5 Shenandoah University ran its winning streak to seven games with a 4-1 ODAC victory at Bridgewater College Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (17-2, 4-1 ODAC) broke a 1-1 tie with the Eagles (9-13, 2-3) with three runs in the seventh and used another strong
Jacob Bell pitching performance to cruise to the win.
IN BRIEF
Pinch hitter
Tyler Blittersdorf gave SU the lead for good as his sinking line drive into left center got past BC centerfielder Hunter Clever for a two-run triple. Blitterdorf scored the final run of the frame as
Frankie Ritter followed with a safety squeeze that stopped on the third base line for an RBI single.
Blittersdorf's triple plated
Haden Madagan and
Kyle Lisa, who reached on an infield single and a hit by pitch, respectively, before each moving up 90 feet on a
Ryan Clawson sacrifice bunt.
The three-run frame was more than enough for Bell (3-0), who tossed his first complete game of the year with a 105-pitch outing that included one run allowed on six hits and one walk. He struck out five and retired Bridgewater in order in the second, fifth, seventh, eighth, and ninth innings.
Bell retired the final 11 hitters he faced in order.
Ritter had three of the Hornets seven hits along with the run batted in.
Pearce Bucher drove in the Hornets first run with a single through the left side in the fourth.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah continues this road trip with a 3:30 ODAC contest Saturday at Averett. The Hornets will play one game on Saturday and one on Sunday – a noon start – to complete their ODAC slates this week.
