GRANTHAM, Pa. – No. 11 Messiah University used a six-goal second quarter to help outlast Shenandoah, 12-10, in women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (5-4 and playing the first of three straight ranked opponents), led the Falcons (6-1) by a 2-1 score at the end of one.
IN BRIEF
The two teams traded the first two goals of the second, with
Emma Stiffler giving the Hornets a 3-2 lead at the 12:06 mark, before Messiah went on its run.
The Falcons scored the final five goals of the second and the first goal of the third to take an 8-3 lead three minutes into the second half.
Stiffler snapped the scoreless run for SU with an unassisted goal at 6:07.
Trailing 10-4 after Messiah sandwiched a pair of goals around the end of the third period, Shenandoah reeled off four straight from the 11:48 to 6:29 marks of the fourth to cut the deficit to just two, 10-8.
Messiah then clinched the victory with goals at 5:05 and 4:24 before the Hornets ended the contest on a two-goal run.
MU outshot Shenandoah, 25-22, and had a 15-10 edge on the draw. SU scooped up 18 of the game's 34 groundballs.

TOUGH SCHEDULE
Messiah, ranked No. 11, is the second ranked opponent the Hornets have faced in the last eight days and the first of three scheduled in the next week. In addition to hosting No. 18 Roanoke Saturday, SU sees No. 2 Washington & Lee come to Winchester next Wednesday.
