Yellow Jackets Sweep Softball

Hornets Drop 4-1 and 10-3 Decisions to No. 10 R-MC

ASHLAND, Va. – Shenandoah University opened up its ODAC softball slate Saturday by dropping a pair at No. 10 Randolph-Macon.
 
R-MC (12-4, 2-0 ODAC) was a 4-1 victor in the opener before completing the sweep over Shenandoah (5-11, 0-2) with a 10-3 win in the nightcap.
 
GAME ONE RECAP
Randolph-Macon held the Hornets to three hits, one of which was a Tiffany Bower home run, in the 4-1 victory.
 
Macon scored one run in the first, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth and had 11 hits in the contest.
 
Bower's home run is her third of the season.
 
Arlene Miller had a single to center in the fourth and Taylor Smith an infield single in the seventh for the Hornets other two hits.
 
Kayla Stephenson (3-7) took the loss in the circle after giving up three runs on 10 hits in 5.0 innings. Smith pitched the sixth and allowed an unearned run on one hit. Both women struck out one.
 
GAME TWO RECAP
The Hornets scored one run in the first and two in the second, but the Yellow Jackets put up three-spots in each of the first three innings on their way to the 10-3 victory.
 
First-year Paige Eagleton had the big blast for Shenandoah, hitting a two-run home run to left in the second to tie the game at 3-3.
 
The Hornets first run also came via the long ball as Bower had a solo shot to left center three batters into the contest.
 
Savannah Thorne (1-1) took the loss after giving up six runs (five earned) on three hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings of work.
 
Brenna Snyder, Kayla Stephenson, and Lily Richichi had Shenandoah's other hits.
 
UP NEXT
The softball team continues this road trip with a 1 p.m. ODAC doubleheader at Roanoke on Saturday, Apr. 1.
