DANVILLE, Va. – No. 5 Shenandoah University ran its baseball winning streak to nine games Sunday with a 6-2 ODAC victory at Averett University.
Shenandoah (19-2, 6-1 ODAC) scored one run in the first, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth to earn the regular season sweep over the Cougars (3-15-1, 0-7).
IN BRIEF
The Hornets banged out 13 hits off of three Averett pitchers with
Gavin Horning leading the way by getting three hits in four at-bats and driving in a pair.
Colby Martin,
Pearce Bucher, and
Kyle Lisa all had two hits with Lisa driving in two runs and Bucher one.
In that three-run third, Martin led off with a single, advanced to third on a Horning single and scored on Bucher's single to right.
Tyler Blittersdorf brought home Horning with a single through the right side and Lisa plated Bucher on a single to left.
Reilly Owen (3-1) went the first 5 1/3 and allowed one run on seven hits and three walks. He struck out five.
Tristan Everett got the next five outs and
Parker Farrington pitched the eighth and ninth innings. Farrington struck out two and Everett one. Both men walked a batter and the run Farrington allowed was unearned.
The Hornets had eight stolen bases on the day with Martin and
Frankie Ritter each swiping a pair of bags.
