WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 11/24 Shenandoah University baseball opened the Mr. V Memorial Classic presented by United Bank Saturday with a 4-1 victory over No. 22 Oswego (N.Y.) State.

Shenandoah (9-0) scored four unearned runs in the seventh to push past the Lakers (1-3).

Jacob Faivre (2-0) was outstanding, allowing just one run on two hits and three walks while striking out 10, but found himself on the wrong side of a 1-0 score as Oswego State designated hitter Owen Parliament lofted a solo shot to right in the top of the first for the game's initial run.

The Hornets, who had six hits in the first six innings off of Lakers starter Kieran Finnegan (1-1), finally broke though in the seventh.

Ryan Clawson led off with a single to left center and was sacrificed to second by
Kooper Anderson with Anderson reaching as the throw to cut him down at first was off the base.

Matt House then moved Clawson and Anderson into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.

Sam Horn's groundball, loaded the bases for leadoff hitter
Frankie Ritter.

Ritter tied the game with a single through the left side, scoring Clawson with an unearned run and ending Finnegan's day.

Gavin Horning greeted reliver Larry Citrola with a sacrifice fly to center to put the Hornets on top to stay. Designated hitter
Colby Martin completed the inning's scoring with a two-run double to deep center.

Kyle Lisa came on in relief of Faivre to start the eighth and shut the door to post his first save of the spring. He faced the minimum and struck out three of the six batters he faced.

Martin was 3 for 4 with the two RBI and Horning 2 for 3 with one run batted in.

Finnegan allowed the four unearned on eight hits while striking out five in 6 1/3.
