Men's Lax Wins First

Hornets Defeat Allegheny, 9-5

WINCHESTER, Va. - Host Shenandoah University scored six first half goals on its way to a 9-5 non-league men's lacrosse victory over Allegheny College Wednesday afternoon.

SU (1-4) scored five of the game's first six goals to take a lead it would not relinquish over the Gators (2-2).

IN BRIEF
Logan Clingerman's goal at the 8:04 mark of the first period put the Hornets on top to stay and started a four-goal run that included tallies from Max Myers, Austin Sydnor, and Matt Daniel.

Allegheny broke the run with a Jack Cushwa goal at the 13:04 mark of the second. In a game of runs, Shenandoah answered back by adding three straight goals from Zachary Heiderman, Stephen Graham, and Sam Poster.

Poster's tally gave the hosts an 8-2 lead with 7:03 remaining in the third.

Allegheny put together one more run, this one three straight, before Clingerman finished off a Heiderman feed at the 7:31 mark of the fourth to close out the game's scoring.

Clingerman and Heiderman led SU on the afternoon with a combined three goals and three assists.

Shenandoah outshot the Gators, 35-25, and won 12 of the game's 18 faceoffs. The Gators had a 35-30 advantage on groundballs.

Hornets goalkeeper Mark Isabelle made 11 saves in the contest.

Coach Tim Marshall's club continues this homestand Saturday with a 1 p.m. non-league contest versus Penn College of Technology.
