WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Dickinson College scored the game's final goal with 2:42 remaining Wednesday afternoon in a 12-11 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah.
Â
Shenandoah (3-2) had battled back from an 11-5 deficit to tie Red Devils (4-0) at 11-11 only to see Dickinson earn the victory.
Â
IN BRIEF
Syd MacKeigan scored the game-winner for DC, sweeping right across the front of the SU defense and slipping her bounce shot just inside the left post.
Â
The Hornets, who got three goals from graduate student
Emma Stiffler on the six-goal run to tie the game at 11-11, had just one shot after MacKeigan's game-winner.
Â
The Red Devils won the draw immediately following what proved to the game-winning goal and held the ball for just over a minute before turning it over on their offensive end.
Â
Shenandoah successfully cleared the ball and after a time-out, Maddie Re had a great look from inside the critical scoring area that went just high with 43 seconds remaining. SU maintained possession but turned it over trying to feed the crease and Dickinson ran out the clock before needing to clear the ball.
Â
Stiffler led the hosts with four goals while
Ainsley Buckner added two.
Â
Dickinson outshot SU, 31-29, and had a 15-14 edge on groundballs. The Hornets took 15 of the game's 27 draws.
Â
Ashley MacFarlane made 11 saves for the hosts.
