VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team battled No. 13 Virginia Wesleyan close in a pair of ODAC softball games Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (12-20, 6-10 ODAC) held leads in both games before falling, 3-2 and 4-1, to the Marlins (26-8, 10-4).
GAME ONE RECAP
The Hornets scored two runs on two hits in the first only to see VWU answer back with single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to earn the 3-2 victory.
Tiffany Bower and
Sarah Medellin had RBI for SU in the first on a groundout to first and a single up the middle, respectively.
Arlene Miller led off the game with a single up the middle and scored on Bower's groundout.
Shenandoah had six hits in the contest with Miller finishing the game 2 for 3.
Kayla Stephenson (7-11) went the distance in the circle and allowed the three runs on seven hits. She struck out four.
GAME TWO
The Hornets again struck first, with a run on one hit in the first but Virginia Wesleyan came back with sandwiched single runs in the fourth and sixth around a two-run fifth to earn the 4-1 victory.
SU was held to three hits in the contest with Rachael Blumenshine getting an RBI single in the first,
Paige Eagleton a double in the fourth, and
Brooke Ansell a single up the middle in the seventh.
Taylor Smith (0-4) pitched the final 3+ innings and took the loss after allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits.
