No. 3 Baseball Splits with No. 7 Lynchburg

SU Wins Game Two, 6-4

WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 3 Shenandoah University split its ODAC baseball doubleheader with No. 7 Lynchburg Sunday, with SU earning a 6-4 game two victory.

Shenandoah (31-5, 15-4 ODAC) game back to win the nightcap after Lynchburg (28-5, 16-3) was a 3-2 winner in the 10-inning opener.

GAME ONE RECAP
Lynchburg scored the winning run on a two-out infield single in the 10th to outlast SU in the 3-2 victory.

After Lynchburg scored a run on two hits in the top of the first, Shenandoah answered back with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame to take an early 2-1 lead.

SU held that advantage until Lynchburg used a leadoff walk, a fielder's choice, a stolen base, and a two-out single to tie the game in the fifth.

The two teams combined for 22 hits in the contest with Lynchburg getting 12 and Shenandoah 10 – Frankie Ritter and Pearce Bucher both had two hits for the hosts.

Shenandoah left nine runners on base, stranded the game-tying run at second in the 10th.

Parker Farrington (4-2) took the loss after allowing one run on five hits and one walk in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Starter Jacob Faivre struck out eight in six innings of work.

GAME TWO RECAP
Two spots in the first, fourth, and eighth innings keyed the 6-4, game two victory for Shenandoah.

Lynchburg scored single runs in the third and eighth, and made matters interesting with a two-run, two-out home run in the ninth, but SU reliever Kyle Lisa got Avery Nieves to fly to left to end the contest.

Ryan Clawson had a two-run single for the victors in the first with Frankie Ritter and Connor Houser doing the game for SU in the fourth and eighth, respectively.

The two teams split 14 hits with Lisa, who started at second base, going 2 for 4.

Reilly Owen (5-1) pitched the first 6.0 innings to earn the victory. He allowed one run on four hits, walked four, and struck out six.

UP NEXT
With Monday's 3:30 non-league contest at the York College of Pennsylvania moved to Wednesday, the Hornets continue ODAC play with a Tuesday contest at Eastern Mennonite. First pitch in that game is also scheduled for 3:30.
