WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 10 Lynchburg used a big second quarter on its way to an 18-7 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Wednesday evening.
Lynchburg (7-4, 3-0 ODAC) expanded on its three-goal lead at the end of one to score 10 goals in the second quarter and pull away from Shenandoah (4-6, 1-2).
IN BRIEF
The southern ODAC Hornets scored the game's first six goals before
Max Myers put the hosts on the board with a goal off of a
Stephen Graham assist at 11:45 of the second.
Lynchburg answered with three straight, and nine of the next 10, to push its advantage out to 15-2 by the 10:40 mark of the third.
Sam Poster had Shenandoah's goal during this run with an unassisted tally at 5:47 of the second.
The northern Hornets continued to battle, and reeled off four straight from the 7:24 to :50 marks of the third to cut the deficit to nine, 15-6. Myers, Grahman,
Matt Daniel, and
Zachary Heiderman had the SU goals during this run.
Lynchburg closed it out by scoring three of the game's final four goals, including the last one 49 seconds before the final buzzer.
Lynchburg outshot SU, 45-39, had a 52-26 edge on groundballs, and won 18 of the 29 faceoffs.
Graham and Heiderman both had three points for the hosts with Heiderman posting two goals and an assist and Graham a goal and two assists.
Josh Boonshaft had a team-high five groundballs and
Mark Isabelle made 15 saves.
