Softball Splits with Royals

Snyder Hits Grand Slam in 8-4, Game Two Victory

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team registered its second straight ODAC doubleheader split Wednesday by taking one of two from Eastern Mennonite.

Shenandoah (7-13, 2-4 ODAC) rebounded from a 4-1 game one loss to EMU (8-11-1, 1-5) to win game two, 8-4.

GAME ONE RECAP
Eastern Mennonite scored one run in the second along with two in the third and the two teams split 14 hits in the 4-1 Royals victory.

Catcher Brenna Snyder produced the Hornets lone run with a solo home run to center in the fifth.

Lily Richichi, Arlene Miller, Tiffany Bower, Savannah Thorne, Sydnee Flores, and Shannon Keeney had Shenandoah's other hits.

Kayla Stephenson (4-8) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits and one walk in 5.0 innings of work. She struck out three.

GAME TWO RECAP
The Royals looked to be on their way to a sweep with two runs in the first and two more in the second, but SU knotted the contest at 4-4 thanks to a four-run third and then got a grand slam in the fifth to key the 8-4 victory.

Snyder had that grand slam, taking the first offering she saw from Natalye Graham over the left field wall for her fourth home run of the season.

SU had three hits in that frame with Taylor Smith and Danielle McNeill singles sandwiching a Sarah Medellin walk to load the bases for Snyder.

Now staked to a four-run lead, Thorne (3-3), the game two starter, allowed just one hit over the final two innings to lock down the victory. She struck out four and allowed the four runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks.

Shenandoah scored its four runs in the third on two hits and one EMU error. Thorne and McNeill had RBI singles in the frame.

McNeill had two of the Hornets six hits in the win.
