Softball Splits Again

Both Games Decided by 3-2 Score, SU Wins Game One

WINCHESTER, Va. –  The Shenandoah University softball team split with Gettysburg College Thursday afternoon in a non-league doubleheader.

The Hornets (8-14) won game one 3-2 before falling by the same score to the Bullets (13-10-1) in extra innings of game two.

GAME ONE RECAP
Down 2-0 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Kayla Stephenson forced a walk to load the bases for Shenandoah. Brenna Snyder then stepped up to the plate and hit a bases clearing double to give the Hornets the 3-2 advantage.

Stephenson (5-8) held the Bullets to just one hit in the complete game win. That only hit was a triple down the right field line that gave GC its 2-0 lead in the second inning.

The Hornets' defense and Stephenson sat down the final 11 Gettysburg batters to secure the game one victory.

Catcher Sarah Medellin led all hitters with two hits and Snyder now has eight RBI in her last four games.

GAME TWO RECAP
Gettysburg pitcher Morgan Beggs (2-0) picked up the complete game win in extras after thanks to a fielder's choice out for the final out of the game that kept the bases loaded for Shenandoah in the bottom of the ninth.

Each team scored one run in their respective half of the first inning. A Tiffany Bower single through the middle of the field scored Lily Richichi to tie the game at 1-1.

Shenandoah pitchers Savannah Thorne and Taylor Smith (0-3) helped force extra innings by holding the Bullets scoreless in innings two through seven.

GC took the lead in the top half of the eighth but down to their final two outs the Hornets were able to even things up with another RBI from Bower on a double to right center.

Olivia Moser's RBI single for Gettysburg in the ninth was all that was needed to give them the games final score of 3-2.

UP NEXT
The Hornets host Lynchburg Saturday in an ODAC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
