WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team dropped two games versus nationally ranked University of Lynchburg Saturday afternoon in a home ODAC doubleheader.
No. 16 Lynchburg (17-11, 6-4 ODAC) defeated Shenandoah (8-16, 2-6) by a 4-0 score in game one and 5-1 in game two.
GAME ONE RECAP
Getting its first two batters of the game on base, Lynchburg was able to take an early 1-0 lead with a Bri Hodges RBI single up the middle of the field.

Kayla Stephenson (5-9) retired seven of the next eight batters to keep her squad within one.
Back-to-back errors and a Danielle McNeil sacrifice bunt put two runners in scoring position for SU to begin the bottom of the fourth but Lynchburg pitcher Emily Charlton (5-4) struck out one and forced a fly out to end the inning and preserve the lead.
Up 2-0, the southern Hornets added runs in the fifth and sixth to double their lead. They would go on to retire nine of the next 11 batters out to pick up the win.
Savannah Thorne led Shenandoah in hits with two hits in three trips to the plate.
GAME TWO RECAP
Lynchburg added one run in the fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh in its 5-1 win.
Thorne started the game off for SU with a double and two batters later crossed home plate to give SU its only lead of the day, 1-0.
Shenandoah's defense and Thorne maintained the lead until the fifth by retiring the side in the third and fourth.
Pitcher Kailey Dorcsis (7-2) aided Lynchburg's win by striking out nine and only allowing three hits in game two.
