RICHMOND, Va. – The No. 2/2 Shenandoah University baseball team dropped its ODAC Tournament game, 13-5, to No. 5 University of Lynchburg Friday afternoon at the University of Richmond in the winner's bracket final.
Â
LYN (37-6) opened the gates with five runs in the fourth inning and a three-run home run in the following frame in its victory over SU (37-6).
Â
IN BRIEF
Shenandoah got on the board first as
Gavin Horning hit his solo home run of the season into the trees just past the left field fence at Pitt Field with two outs in the top of the first.
Â
Lynchburg responded right away in the bottom half of the first as a sacrifice fly and a SU error plating two runs making it 2-1.
Â
In the bottom of the third, after a pair of singles and a runner at third, Lynchburg scored on a wild pitch pushing its lead to 3-1. In the next inning, Holden Fiedler hit a two-RBI single for the victors and the team added another pair of runs following the hit.
Â
Shenandoah was able to cut into the deficit in the fifth and sixth with two runs in each inning.
Frankie Ritter and Horning each scored in the fifth on two separate wild pitches.Â
Â
Ritter added an RBI in his next plate appearance which allowed
Colby Martin to follow that up with a single through the middle of the field which scored
Jake Troutner.
Â
However, each time SU scored Lynchburg answered it with runs of its own, never allowing Shenandoah to close the gap.Â
Â
The northern Hornets used eight separate pitchers which saw
Stephen Lencz make his first colligate appearance in the eighth.
Luke Lageman,
Torrey Savoia, and Tristian Savoia all pitched one complete inning.
Â
Horning and Ritter led the squad with two hits each. The duo joined Martin as the only players with an RBI as well.

Ritter enters the elimination game versus Roanoke one hit from tying Tristan Baker '19 for the ODAC career hits record.
